ML MOTORSPORTS O’REILLY RACEWAY PARK
WARSAW, Ind. - Though they put the same hard work and effort into every race, Saturday’s Kroger 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis is going to be special for the members of ML Motorsports.
The team, which was founded in 1998 as an ARCA RE/MAX Series team, is based in Warsaw, Indiana, a growing community of about 12,000 that is located an hour south of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend and just under an hour west of Fort Wayne.
“It’d be really cool to go there and have a strong showing,” said crew member Tim Frantz, who grew up in Warsaw and is one of the original team members. “This is the only time each year we get to race in our home state, so it’s special. All the races are special, but when you only have to drive two hours to the track, this one is special for us.”
The team’s shop is located just off US 30W in Warsaw. The impressive 40,000-square foot racing facility is tucked between a bean field and a corn field. It might not be the surroundings the teams in the Charlotte, N.C. area are used to, but for the crew at ML Motorsports its home. (complete release)
ML MOTORSPORTS NAMES HONORARY CREW MEMBER
WARSAW, Ind. - As if racing in its home state wasn’t special enough for ML Motorsports, the Warsaw, Indiana-based stock car team will have an honorary Crew Member for this weekend’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis. A.J. was released from Riley Children’s Hospital on Monday, July 21st and will be at the race providing his doctors give him the go ahead on Thursday.
A.J. Stinger, an 8-year-old from Muncie, Indiana has been named honorary ML Motorsports Crew Member for Saturday’s Kroger 200. A.J., the son of Tom and Deb Stinger, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in December of 2007.
Since his diagnosis, A.J. has been undergoing treatments at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. This week, A.J. will be finishing up the series of devastating treatments and begin the maintenance portion of the treatment.
Last month, A.J. and his father paid a visit to the team’s shop, hanging out with the crew and sharing some of his experiences from Riley Children’s Hospital. A.J. praised the nurses that took care of him and talked of how, even though he was sick, there were many other children that were worse off than he.
A.J. told the team that he wanted to raise money to buy the other children Christmas gifts because he thinks it would make them happy, even if they have to be in a hospital for Christmas.
ML Motorsports would like to help A.J. raise money to buy Christmas gifts for the other patients at Riley Children’s Hospital and is hoping to help raise awareness of this special wish. Contact jweaver@mlracing.com for more information on how to help A.J.
