Green battles through Monster Mile
Dover, De. – It was a frustrating day for Mark Green
and the #23 Vassarette Chevrolet at Dover International
Speedway on Saturday.
Early in the race, Green began experiencing handling problems.
The team made several adjustments but Green was forced to
bring the car into the garage area for further repairs.
It was there that crew chief Kenneth Campbell discovered
the heim / joint was broken and that failure was causing
the left front tire to lift off the track through the turns.
Once the problem was fixed and Green returned to the track
he was able to run well, but the damage had been done. As
he was already 19 laps down, all Green could do was ride
out the race.
“It is tough because we felt we had a really good
car,” said Campbell. “We tried everything we
could to keep him out there but nothing worked until we
brought the car into the garage.”
Green ended the race in 32nd position. Even with the difficulties,
the team actually gained more than 30 points in the Owner’s
standings and now sits just 31 points out of the top 30
among cars that have attempted every race.
Martin Truex won the event and a total of 19 cars finished
on the lead lap. Next up for the team is the Federated Auto
Parts 300 in Nashville on June 11.
