Mark Green GEICO Racing Pre-Race Notes

Mark Green on Talladega Superspeedway:

“Talladega is just like Daytona,” explained Green.  “You just have to think more than anything.  You have to strategize.  As long as we don’t get caught up in “The Big One” we’ll kind of use the same strategy that we did at Daytona and wait until the end to race.”  Green locked up a top-ten finish in the series’ last superspeedway race when his beaten and battered Dodge limped across the finish line in 10th at Daytona after being involved in a last lap wreck that involved 11 cars.

Mark Green’s Past at Talladega Superspeedway:

Mark Green secured his best NASCAR Busch Series finish in 2005 at Talladega Superspeedway when he took the checkered flag in 11th position while driving for Keith Coleman Racing.

Mark Green on Restrictor Plate Racing:

“I’ve done it enough to know what to expect; where to be and where not to be.  If you haven’t done it very much, you don’t know where you’re not supposed to be.  I think that’s a big thing.  Plus, guys that have raced with me quite a bit have a little more trust in me and vice versa.  You know how they are and how they are going to react in a situation.  You’ll tend to run with those guys in the draft over someone with less experience.  I think the experience level is just a comfort factor at big tracks like Talladega.”

Mark Green Most Improved in Phoenix:

Mark Green picked up Featherlite’s Most Improved Driver Award in Phoenix after driving his GEICO Dodge to 15th in the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International Raceway.  Green also picked up five bonus points for leading the race when he took the point on lap 87 and led three laps.

Mark Green on his Son’s Successes:

Mark Green’s son, Tyler, is quite a wheel-man, proven by his on-track successes this year.  “He’s probably run about 16 races since January,” explained Tyler’s proud poppa.  “He hasn’t run every weekend, but pretty close.  He’s got 4 wins and I think he’s only finished outside of the top-five a couple of times.”

Returning Home for Randy Armstrong, Jr.:

Randy Armstrong, Jr., the 20-year-old front tire changer and tire specialist for Biagi Bros. Racing, will return home to Alabama this weekend when the series descends on Talladega Superspeedway for Saturday’s running of the Aaron’s 312.  Armstrong got his start in racing at a young age, helping his best friend Cale Gale run late models at Mobile International Speedway in Mobile, Ala.  Gale went on to win the Rookie of the Year title in 2000 with Armstrong as his crew chief.  While Gale went on to secure a part-time ARCA ride with James Finch and Phoenix Racing, Armstrong elected to sharpen his athletic talents as front tire changer at Biagi Bros. Racing while honing his mechanical skills as suspension specialist and tire guru on the No. 4 Dodge.  Armstrong is a 2004 graduate of Theodore High School in Theodore, Ala. and is engaged to Perri Bozeman of Mobile, Ala.  The two will wed on Saturday, May 27th, 2006.

Mark Green’s Appearance for the AIDB:

On Friday, April 28th Mark Green will participate in the 21st Annual Race Fever festival benefiting the children served by the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB).  Green will attend the event from 6:45 – 7:30 p.m. and will take part in an on-stage interview followed by a brief autograph session with fans.  The event will be held on the grounds of Talladega Superspeedway in the Speed Channel Dome behind the Hall of Fame.  “It makes you feel good to help the children,” explained Green.  “Plus it makes you feel good to know that you can help someone that can’t necessarily help themselves.”  Last year’s event helped generate over $200,000 for the AIDB and the deaf, blind, and multi-disabled individuals for which it serves.
